SDSCA HISTORY:
A LOOK INTO THE PAST TO UNITE FOR THE FUTURE
The South Dakota School Counselor Association was officially chartered in 1974.
The purpose of SDSCA is to draw together the ideas and expertise of its members, and to provide services which enhance school counseling. One of the prime goals is to acquaint the public with the work of school counselors.
School counselors have played an active role in updating certification requirements for counselors, and in legislation for privileged communication in counseling. South Dakota school counselors have also worked with legislators to have state-supported career education funding available to schools in South Dakota, have played a responsible role in having mandated counseling in the high schools of the state, and have promoted counseling through various efforts.
SDSCA provides programs for upgrading the counseling skills of its members. It has a membership of responsible professionals who take pride in their profession and in providing high quality ethical services to their students, school staff, and community.
